Hello,

is there a way to have windows XP/Vista connect to a specified wireless router only? I don't want my kids to connect to our neighbours router when they are upstairs doing "homework" and our own wireless network is on a low signal (concrete ceilings...)

Thanks

Hans

assuming you are running SP2 on XP, add the network to your preferred networks in the wireless settings.

Uncheck the option to "automatically connect to non-preferred networks if it is enabled.

At that point, it will only connect to the preferred network automatically and prompt you (but not connect) if another signal is detected.

edit: not sure of the settings in Vista.. gotta go look for them.

Thanks

I have a laptop that runs on Vista Business, can you tell me how to do this on this system as well? My desktop runs on XP SP2 but this is wired

you can also load the order of preferances in the general applet moving them up or down accordingly

it was easier in xp

in vista click the network icon in the tray, hit "network and sharing center"

on the left, "manage wireless networks"

the applet that opens, right click the networks to manage and hit move up or down

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?

Impressed you have kept this alive this long EP! So many sites have come and gone. :(

Just did some crude math and I apparently joined almost 18yrs ago, how is that possible???
