Just checking on something which I know nothing about. I have a 2 port usb card which is being used. If I want to add another usb device do I just unplug one, plug the new one in & when I need the other swap it around again? Is that how it works?

Yep.

Or you can get a USB hub and use all the USB devices at the same time.

a general USB bus can be hubbed out to supports 128 devices
although i wouldnt go that high i think it would slow and would include the hubs in the number
