I am gonna do some upgrades to my computer and had a question. I am going to upgrade my motherboard, processor, and power supply. I am wondering what would be the best bang for my buck. I am wanting to stay under $300.00. AMD is a must.

I have found this

Motherboard & CPU Combo w/ Athlon 64 4000 939-pin
Asus A8V-MX (2PCI - AGP 8X - Int Video - 2DDR - 10/100 LAN)
Ultimate Gaming Cool Package (Copper CPU Fan + 2 Performance Case Fans + Artic Silver)
Okia 550 Watt Power Supply
pretested and 1 yr warranty for $302.87 (free shipping)

Decent deal or should I continue to look around?

Any suggestions would be great.

to be honest for $300 thats probably as good as it gets.

You should check out this thread:

Dell makes quality machines, and because of the contents people have entered there are many solid coupons/offers posted there :)

Not sure if someone has already used them though, may have to try a few.

For that price take it.

Thanks for the responses. I think that I will prolly go with the specs that were originally posted.

The Okia is not ATX 2 compliant. That means it will not support both a high end CPU and video card. It only has 1, +12V power supply rail. All the power is in 3.3V and 5V which new MB/CPU/VIdeo do not use. The one customer review on newegg reports the original one was ODA and the second died in 2 months. Not encouraging.

You are also buying into an AGP motherboard at a time when AGP video cards are virtually non-existant. The AGP card prices are skyrocketing due to low demand. There are no longer any high end AGP video cards being made. IF you plan on using the built in video and never upgrading videeo or gaming this choice is ok.

Under $300, quality components, good on board video and PCI-e expansion. I omitted an aftermarket HFS since AMD supplies an adequate one with the boxed CPU.

If you need AGP for an existing video card Asrock (Dual) makes a good MB that will take either AGP or PCI-e video but has no built in video. ECS has one too but it is not real AGP and useless.

If you want to do SLI or top end video latter you could go to a higher capacity antec truepower II and still be around $300.

This one will over run your budget a little:

Finally if multitasking (I notice you fold) is important and gaming is not, consider this dual core CPU instead. It will be slower for single tasks but great when running two tasks and with the cheapest truepower II is within budget.

Tbh, you don't really need multiple +12v rails. Even one will do as long as it is solid and the quality of the psu is good.

However I have never heard of Okia

Sounds like a fruit.

Gonna be selling my video card realtively soon, when the new R600's come out most likely, video/mobo/proc. Will see how it goes :)

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
