Unmountable Boot Volume?!

Hey guys. I've got a problem in loading Win XP. Whenever I boot, it gives me the BSOD and says something about 'Unmountable Boot Volume'. Understandably, I'm gonna be unable to boot from my C: but is there anyway to 'rescue' it? I'm praying hard that I don't have to format my C: partition 'cos I've got my final year project on it and I definitely won't have time to re-do it all over again. Any and all assistance will be greatly appreciated. System specs are as follows:

- 2.0 GHz P4
- 100 GB HDD (Partitioned into 68.7 and 24.9 GB partitions)
- Windows XP Professional OEM
- nVidia GeForce3 Ti200 64MB DDR
- 512 MB PC800 RDRAM
- Turtle Beach Santa Cruz

:(

If this is the first time you've seen this error screen, restart your computer. If this screen apppears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation ask your hardware of software manuufacturer for any windows update you might need.

If the problems continue, , disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable compontents, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

THE FIX:

Boot from the CD to the Recovery Console

Type: chkdsk /r (and wait FOREVER)
Type: fixboot
Type: exit

Hipster forgot one thing....

Once you get back into your drive back up your important stuff like your final year project Hard drives always die at the worst time.

I had the same problem a year ago and I did the above and the problem went away.

Yeah... it solved the problem, but whenever I try to log-in to Windows, I get another BSOD. :( *sux*

But nevermind, I've done a Safe Mode and backed up my stuff. Wiped out WinXp and done a clean install. Thanks to all for assistance!
