ultra dma 5 not detected

Hi all.

Posting this for a friend who owns an HP Pavillion 7955.

He recently fried his H/D and replaced it with a 40gig Maxtor making sure the jumper was set as master and had the proper
80 pin shielded cable. The problem is that even though the bios picks it up as ultra dma 5, checking in hardware/system properties
shows it up as being PIO. The option to use DMA if available is enabled.

His previous drive was a Seagate 40 gig.

We downloaded the latest inf files from Intel etc ... but to no avail.

Any suggestions ?

If I remember correctly, HP uses cable select for their hard drives. Also check to see if the maxter has a connection for single drive. If set for master then the software is looking for a slave drive also.

Tx for the info guys, will send him the link to this post and will let you know how we make out.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
