For those who missed this one its been around but its worht reposting :

When you connect to another computer with Windows XP, it checks for any Scheduled tasks on that computer - a fairly useless task, but one that can add up to 30 seconds of waiting on the other end - not good! Fortunately, it’s fairly easy to disable this process.

First, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Current Version/Explorer/RemoteComputer/NameSpace
in the Registry. Below that, there should be a key called {D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF}.

Just delete this, and after a restart, Windows will no longer check for scheduled tasks - major performance improvement!

Stuck the thread for awhile, as it seems we've been getting more ppl on the boards who haven't seen this yet...Will unstick later when I feel like it =p

Every so often I forget to do that tweak after installing an OS... Always good to see it...

Hello,

Just got XP Pro installed about two weeks ago and have learned so much. Just found your forum here. Hope to learn some more. Already learned about the networking tweak. Didn't know that it looked for tasks on other systems. Wondered why mine was slow to see other systems. Now I know!

Thanks;)

i don't have that listing, all i have is
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RemoteComputer\NameSpace\{2227A280-3AEA-1069-A2DE-08002B30309D}

should i delete this one? it says something about remote printers, however i dont access or will need to axs any remote printers...

Probably wouldn't....

You may of already done the reg fix one night after a bender down at the local and have no recolection of it!.....

I know I sure have!

Remember though you can Export the key just in case it causes you grief after you have deleted it and import it back again.

are you suggesting that i am an alcoholic? :p well, ok. FINE! i admit it. i enjoy the occasional bi-weekly binge, however i am well aware of the dangers of operating heavy machinery uner the influence.

all i can recollect is that i have on occasion had very funny (when i read the history) conversations with people over icq..

I don't have that key either and the lack of it has definately NOT speeded up sharing.

Any of the SP crew still out there?
