Well I got a trojan in my computer. I used AVG to find it. It said it can't be removed because it's archived. So I just went to the folder which had the file and deleted it. Anything else I need to do? Just want to be sure my computer is clean.

Here's a log:

Looks alright?

What was the name of the trojan?

I noticed you have nod32 and AVG both on your rig..are you sure it wasent a false positive from AVG relaying off nod32?...just curious?

Also I would like to add that using a trojan scan program like "trojan remover 30day trial" or "a-squared free" along with a good anti virus helps make sure your clean from malware. :)

You can't scan with AVG in safemode; also, as stated, you should NEVER run two AV programs at the same time. If the trojan was inside a jar archive, and you are using Sun's java, you are OK, just delete the archive. Those are mostly CWS java-byte verify exploits that only affect the native MSJVM.

Well right now, it's just working fine. I just uninstalled NOD32. At that time, I couldn't as AVG was scanning. I also scanned my computer later on with HouseCall, and it didn't find anything.

Should I post a new log?

edit: Someone has just recommended PestPatrol to me? Should I use that instead of AVG? I need a new AV scanner. :p

DO NOT USE PP, they have a very bad history. AVG is a perfectly fine AV program, I run it on all of my Windows PC's.

Hmm, but is AVG free?
AVG has both a FREE and pay version. Also I wonder if the "archived" part is related to a system restore point. If you box is stable you may want to disable system restore, do a scan, and then enable it again after the scan checks out ok. I know most AV's don't/can't scan restore points and would allow a trojan/virus to just be restored if that point (or future points) were used.

I'd personally recommend NOD32 over AVG, but it isn't free. Your call though. :)

No, I guess everything is fine now. My PC is working pretty good. Also, could you please post a link to download a free AVG?

I've never used either. I'd recommend KAV (though it's NOT free). :p

*sorry as this isn't really helpful*

Okay, I uninstalled PestPatrol. Using AVG Free Edition now. Thanks j79zlr and all other members. :)

There's a free version of KAV 5 (Personal) not less effective than the Pro version and, as Xie mentionned, it IS able to scan Restore Points.
My 0.2 cents... as I'm a KAV 5 (Pro) user ;)

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
