Transfer files from Win 98 to Win XP

I have newly bought a Win XP Home PC. I want to transfer many megabytes of my old data to my new cable. I looked up the File and Settings transfer Wizard and Win Help says the other machine must have Win 2000 or XP. My original machine has Win 98 SE. What can I do? Is it possible to use a DCC (direct cable connection)? Thanks in advance.

Id say set up a network to transfer the files.
