How are forums like this one put together and maintained?

Is there a program that is available that will do all the work for you or is this all 'hand made'.

Its very good and i want to use something similar to set up my own forum. Any tips/links/advice would be muchos appraciated!

for hosting checkout lycos/tripod they give you 50mb space and supprot php and sql

never would have thought Tripod or Lycos would handle those... good to know that some of the free ones actually understand what budget-living is.

Members, you can have the best scripts money can buy but if you havent got a core base of members posting then its pointless
