Which is better for the CPU & heatsink? Thermal pad or thermal compound. Is there much of a difference for getting the heat away or are they pretty much doing the same job?

If your not overclocking IMHO dont worry about it, if your going to over clock then its compound and Arctic Silver is the most highly recomended.
But if you have Gremlins around then I would be worried no matter what you use.

Even at stock speeds you will have lower temps (if that is important to you) with Artic Silver as it is a lot more thermally conductive then pads are.

Just got rid of the bloody GREMLINS. Took a couple of months to track them down. Damn mother board.
