The XP that wouldnt die

Does any one know of any programs that help with shutting down XP.
Im fed up of the program not responding message,also mine often gets past the windows is shutting down message and then just hangs(especially annoying when I turn it of before going to bed and seeing it still on on the morning GRRRRRRRRR)
then I have to cut the power of to do anything.
All tips are welcome.

Ive got a selection sometimes its norton antivirus other times its pdp rpc server,though really it can be any background program.
Im really hoping for a tweak or program that will force xp to shut down

some firewalls cause that...open the task manager up and close programs, see what happens.

X-Setup has an option to close hanging programs upon shutdown(can specify time for closure too). It works pretty good.

ive been experiencing this problem especially with the latest 3.1 dod release, wich causes a crash when the server changes a map. I really really really want the win95-98-me task manager back. that would close anything, and it would instantly pop up over any freezing applications
