Obviously.

But what about those people who are so excited about their new chip, they install it in a huge rush, and FORGET to put the hsf on? lol, it happens. Or, wht if your hsf is inadequate, or worse yet - what if your fan fails for some reason? On-die thermal diodes are awesome, but only if the mb supports them!
