Hi

I have a compaq laptop running win XP professional connected to a network with a Win2k server. Recently in the last couple of days my connection to shared drives on the server has been dropping.

I get the message :-

An error occured while reconnecting N: to \\*servername*\*sharedfoldername*

Microsoft Windows Network : The local device name is already in use.

This connection has not been restored.

If I reboot I get access again. I can still see the network and have net access but cannot access the server at all.

I supspected my internal network card so I inserted and configured a PCMCIA card, but after a while I still get the problem. This only seems to occur after a period of inactivity to one of the network drives. I have outlook running all day yet that seems to maintain a connection to Exchange which runs on the same server.

Any help greatfully recieved.

That is caused probably because your server or local computer are trying to remap all your network drives when you log on. If you do not set them to disconnect after that use, that will conflict when a server login script trys to remap them when they already exist.
