Temporary print file

Is it possible to move wherever WinXP writes temporary print jobs off of the system drive onto another drive? Printing colour A3 sheets at 600dpi generates jobs almost 200 MB at times for me, so I would prefer it if I could move the temporary print files to a larger disk, especially when with multiple jobs in queue.

I already have my swap file moved and the TMP and TEMP environment variables pointing to another disk, so I know these aren't what I need to change.

Thanks.

First create a folder where you want to store the new spooler file (eg: D:\Spool). The default location is %SystemRoot%\system32\spool\PRINTERS

Then fire up regedit (Start>Run>regedit) and navigate to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Printers] and change the "DefaultSpoolDirectory" string value to the full path of the new folder.

Reboot Windows or stop and restart the Print Spooler service through services.msc

:)

Possibly...but you'd need quite a large RAMdrive if you were printing large/many files.

aye, a ramdrive would be nice for that kinda thing... you'd need loads of ram though, especially if one file could be 2-300mb in size.

Interesting to know its possible to move the spooling folder though :)

kool i never knew it could be moved

It's called AOL lingo. Believe it or not, 90% of the AOL users I know use words like "kool" and "lolz" :p

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
