Hey

Everytime I start XP Pro my taskbar is frozen for about a minute and then it just stops and I can use it again.

I checked my comp for spyware and viruses and found nothing.

Any idea how to fix this?

Thanks

A good boot time defrag and running microsofts bootvis tool cut that problem by 75% for me, i couldnt understand it after i upgraded to some of the fastest pc hardware about this month and my taskbar froze, it turned out to be windows setting driver delays as it didnt understand my PC was fast and could load everything in 10 seconds..... bootvis did it for me :)

a quick google for bootvis will take you there.

See how this goes if it is more than the taskbar>

Correcting System Hang at Startup

If your system hangs about 2 or 3 minutes at startup, where you can't access the Start button or the Taskbar, it may be due to one specific service (Background Intelligent Transfer) running in the background. Microsoft put out a patch for this but
it didn't work for me. Here's what you do:

1. Go to the control panel/admin tools/.
2. Go to the 'Services' tab, find the 'Background Intelligent Transfer' service, disable it, apply the changes & reboot.

Also if not on a network disable 'workstation' at the same place as above.

I had this same problem when i started windows none of my desktop icons would load up and my start menu wouldnt work for about 30-60 secs, but my quuick start menu would.......my god it was annoying. After fiddling with settings and deleting stuff (nice technical term :)) i found by trial and error that it was to do with my ickle network. My bro's comp is connected to mine through a mini hub, if his comp isnt turned on then mine took ages to load the desktop/start menu, but if his was turned on it was instant... i know i dont really have a fix but i found that by removing my network cable my comp booted every time if my bro wanted something off my comp i just plugged it back in and it worked. What a bizzar world we live in eh!!!!
