OK, after creating a few partitions I chopped up my HD to how I want, I moved my pagefile and my IE temp files to my newly created 1.5 Gb z:/drive which is at the start of my HD. My question is that when I came to set a restore point my C: drive is no longer seen by system restore, and the z: drive is first in the restore list.

Has anyone else come across this? It seems I can't create restore point to my OS partition WTF???!!!?

hmmm, Haven't seen that problem...

But some advice...you WANT the swap file ON THE SAME partition as the os...regardless or not of the beginning of the drive being faster it slows the drive down and brings undue stress by having them on separate partitions because then the drive head keeps having to go back and forth between them

The only time the swap file should be on another partition is if the partition is on a separate physical drive.

Thanks for that Qumahlin, will move it back to OS partition. Didn't really see that great a difference anyways! I noticed a better speed increase by moving my prog files to another partition. Does anyone know why common files folder recreates itself even though all my registry settings point to the D: drive?

I wait with FUJISM breath!!

Cheers

Moving the swapfile is good if you have two SEPERATE harddrives, but if its just 1 harddrive partitioned then I agree, leave it alone!.. just walk away!!..lol

Dunno why common files replicates itself, probably a reg entry somewhere.

If I was you I'd leave all XP files and program files on the main C: drive (or whatever its called). On the other partition I'd put temp internet files and my documents folder. (in XP-Home, you lose the privacy options by moving my documents) but personally I dont need that privcy anyway, as I'm the only one that uses PC!.

As for System Restore, right click on My Computer (startmenu or esktop) and click properties from menu. Goto Restore tab and pick the drives you want Restore to monitor. Loks like its lost track.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
