has anyone gotten contig to work?

I can't get the command line right, I want to be able to defrag the temp INTERNET files all by itself and I don't want to create a separate partition for them

for those of you that don't know what I'm talking about, contig is a utility that is supposed to be able to defrag individual files.

it can also make a contiguous file on creation.

but none of the command lines I've tried are recognized, so if anyone can get this to work with their temp INTERNET files, can you post for me the complete command line.

I'll paste it in and change the path of the file, then I'll make a batch file to run it whenever I like

thanx in advance

contig -s "C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\*.*"

and

contig -s "C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files"

where User is your login name (and C: your Windows boot drive).

arra, welcome to this board!

I keep getting the notice that contig isn't recognized

contig -s "C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\file name"

"Temporary Internet Files" is a folder not a file and Contig is for files.

contig -s "C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\*.*"
assumes contig.exe is in current directory or in a directory defined in the path.
Otherwise:
c:\somepath\contig -s "C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\*.*"

Yes, contig is for files. Directory is a special file type.
While essentially for files, contig seems to handle directories too.

Because of this:
arra said:
contig -s "C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\*.*"
assumes contig.exe is in current directory or in a directory defined in the path.
Otherwise:
c:\somepath\contig -s "C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\*.*"
Are you running cmd from start menu - run ?
If so, use this format: c:\somepath\contig ...
Or add c:\somepath to your windows path. (right click my computer-properties-advanced-environment variables-system variables)
Also when running from a batchfile, when the contig-command in it is run, contig.exe must be either in the current directory or in path. Otherwise you must give the full path to contig.exe in the commandline.

ya, I was using cmd from windows key+r, that's it!

gonna try this later today...you get rep points from me arra...I hope you stick around

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
