Switch off Floppy drive read in XP

I use XP Home. When ever I launch a program like Adobe Pagemaker, my harddisk is reading floppy drive first. Even other wise, it seems to try to read Floppy drive for other applications too. Is there a way to switch this off in XP, like in Windows 98, where we can instruct it not to do it?

This might have nothing to do with what you are talking about, but I know there is a setting in the bios when you computer boots up that you can tell it what order to use your floppy drive and cdrom drive.

Make sure your Shell Hardware Detection service is set to Automatic.

- It is for the Boot sequence I suppose.

- Yes It is set to automatic.

I know this isn't the answer you're looking for, and I don't mean to be a smartass, but have you considered removing your floppy drive? I removed mine about three months ago and haven't missed it since.

Again, I realize this is a little off topic, but if it bothers you that much you might want to try disconnecting the data cable from your floppy (no harm done) just as an experiment to see whether you need a floppy drive at all.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
