I don't doubt who won and who lost. Or who would have (steelers) if the officiating would have been par. But that is the concern I have. Refs.
I agree the officiating was shoddy but come on. There have been plenty of games where some teams get all the calls.
In the nba for example, is it any wonder WHY the pistons have the best defense? They hold/grab and do all kinds of additional things to slow their opponents down but because they have a reputation of being a GREAT defensive team, they get all the calls. As a consequence, somehow miraculously the "best defensive team" in teh NBA has the fewest called fouls.
Gee whiz.
One days after all kinds of hell was raised about the Blue Devils getting all teh calls, I watched them get absolutely shafted by the refs against north carolina, primarily in the first quarter as UNC came back from a deficit. The fact that Duke actually somehow won is more a testament to their team being GOOD than the officials being good.
Moral == refs are human, they make mistakes. There are lots of refs in a football game. My contention is that the 2 calls people have a pet peeve about, i.e. the offensive pass interference and the td by big ben are the less controversial of the calls.
The offensive pass interference was an offensive pass interference. The TD was a TD. I personally don't see a reason to challenge it just because a bunch of people are unhappy with the call. If I was a ref I would have called the hawks "td" an offensive pass interference as well from the vantage point of the ref who threw the flag.
Ben's TD also was a VALID TD and I fail to understand how people can still contemplate arguing against it.
Other calls such as the one against hasselback when he tackled, I don't understand. Also I was amazed that the potential TD in the 3rd or 4th quarter when the hawks receiver had 1 foot inbounds and hit the pylon with his other foot was not even reviewed. There were other calls. On the whole though, there were a few calls, there was a heck of a lot more BAD plays.
The 1 or 2 ACTUAL potentially bad calls do not and should not define the game.
