strange problem after booting

Hey

Right after I boot when I go to the task manager it looks like this:

tasks.jpg

and it keeps doing it for a long time after the boot.

Does anyone know what causes this?

Thanks

Norton Speed Disk . It is mainly associated with scheduling Speed Disk and is installed to start automatically by default on Windows boot-up. If you disable it, Speed Disk can still be run manually.

you'll find it in services.msc

you know where that is dont ya

:p

Theres no Norton Speed Disk in services.msc.

Anything else?

Had to look for a while to find out what may be the problem in your pic. It is the missing names in the User Name column, right? They do appear after a while?
No real idea what could cause this.
When the problem occurs I would look in services.msc if a service is listed as starting (not started) or look in event viewer if there are error messages about services that have problems starting.

yoyo > well spotted

with nopdb highlighted I thought that was the problem ..::Doh::..

That was my first thought as well.

Maybe an idea for the General forum - Riddle: What's wrong in my screenie? :D

I noticed a few days ago that I get the exact same problem. There are no user names attached to the image name, then after a while they appear. I keep getting the following error in the Event Viewer also:

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: Userenv
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1517
Date: 20/04/2003
Time: 16:07:10
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Computer: CZARINA
Description:
Windows saved user CZARINA\Pete registry while an application or service was still using the registry during log off. The memory used by the user's registry has not been freed. The registry will be unloaded when it is no longer in use.

This is often caused by services running as a user account, try configuring the services to run in either the LocalService or NetworkService account.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Smokingweed, do you get this also?

Thanks guys, I fixed it. It was the terminal service that I disabled.

NegativeFactor, check if you have the terminal service disabled, if it is then set it to manual.

LOL

heh good idea yoyo :D

I'm hopeless :p at those type of games

just thinking > if he's on a network & the problem is temporary

would it not be XP just checking the connections ???

My network can take up to about 10 minutes for each PC to be able to read each other

another stab in the dark > could it have anything to do with fast user switching > maybe the service or dependant service (terminal services) isnt loading properly ????

a quick check in the event viewer should reveal if its that or not

Ha, I looked at the picture for a bit and said to myself "I can't see any problems, what is he talking about?"

Thats cuz mine has never had a username, and I never thought it mattered...

I don't have the terminal services service disabled but I do have 4 other services disabled. However I have good reason to have them disabled. I think i'll put up with it, it's not really a problem, more of an annoyance.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
