still cannot use msn messenger unless i turn of zone alarm pro ,i have turned of xp firewall,and also let msn messenger allow all access to all ports and let it be a server as well.Could it be a problem as i installed xp over win 98 ,but i did reinstall zone alarm pro and the latest msm messanger

are you behind a router or proxi?
I had the same problem with my setup because I use a router, I had to configure the hardware firewall on it to permit those ports
