Static IP

If I am on a router with 2 other people, is it alright if I go into the settings and make my IP static? Will that cause any problems with the other peoples internet, or anything?

Thanks.

Set the DHCP range to something like 192.168.1.100-192.168.1.150 and set your static IP outside of that range.

What exactly is DHCP, and are those numbers you listed numbers I can use, or just the idea?

DHCP = dynamic host configuration protocol - the numbers j79zlr are normaly the ip ranges that are set on routers - although they can be different so you should check, pernsonaly i place all pcs i have on static ip addresses.

Good to know, just wanted to make sure I won't screw anything up.

Thanks guys.

bman.. no offense, but if you don't understand DHCP or how IP addresses are assigned you probably shouldn't be messing with the IP addresses.

Why are trying to set a static IP?

I understand it, I double check and guess myself. Plus I have you wonderful people here to help me lol.

I am portfowarding, which needs a static ip address.

Or put a lockdown on the mofo man before he get a hand in yo cookie jar. Setup three IP's with a hugely long lease time and ban the rest.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
