Hey guys,

I remember a while ago there was a post on ntfs (or so long ago that it was xperience) that linked to a website that listed every application that could start at startup, listed what they did and if you needed them. anyone know the website url? or does anyone know any other websites that lists applications that startup with windows xp, and tells what they do and if they are important?

thanks.

This is what I use for the services>

For a Safer Faster Startup

To disable unneeded startup services for a safer faster XP, use the "Services" Admin Tool (Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services). If you are a single user of a non-networked machine, you can disable the following items, with no ill effect. (Right click - Stop - Right Click - Properties - Disable)
Alerter
Clipbook
Computer Browser
Fast User Switching
Human Interface Access Devices
Indexing Service (Slows the hard drive down)
Messenger
Net Logon (unnecessary unless networked on a Domain)
Netmeeting Remote Desktop Sharing (disabled for extra security)
Remote Desktop Help Session Manager (disabled for extra security)
Remote Procedure Call Locator
Remote Registry (disabled for extra security)
Routing & Remote Access (disabled for extra security)
Server
SSDP Discovery Service (this is for the utterly pointless "Universal P'n'P", & leaves TCP Port 5000 wide open)
TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper
Telnet (disabled for extra security)
Universal Plug and Play Device Host
Upload Manager
Windows Time
Wireless Zero Configuration (for wireless networks)
Workstation

Thanks. :) However I am a networked machine, so that doesn't do me any good. Does anyone know of any websites that give a description of all start up items (including non-microsoft items)

Thanks.

whoops... forgot about this thread

but i was looking for the black viper website, but the other one is even better. Thanks :)

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
