if your start bar occasionally freezes, then here's a fix that worked awesome for me. In task manager(ctrl+alt+del), go to the process explorer.exe and change it's priority to above normal.

Because I can't make Kaspersky's Antivirus Personal Pro 4.x to allow XP to boot completely (hourglass in the startbar for a long time).
