when i start my computer it is all good except for when i get into windows and it loads the start bar, it takes about 2 min for it to get going, and when it is there the first icon loaded is the norton antivirus one and it shows that it is disabled, i have takes all of the crap that i dont need out of the ms config menu a wil ago and it was fine but it jsut started and it is really annoying, does anyone have an idea on why it is doing this???

See how this goes. You can change it back if it does nothing.

Correcting System Hang at Startup

If your system hangs about 2 or 3 minutes at startup, where you can't access the Start button or the Taskbar, it may be due to one specific service (Background Intelligent Transfer) running in the background. Microsoft put out a patch for this but
it didn't work for me. Here's what you do:

1. Click on Start/Run, type 'msconfig', then click 'OK'.
2. Go to the 'Services' tab, find the 'Background Intelligent Transfer' service, disable it, apply the changes & reboot.

thanks for the reply but i disabled it and no luck, also i just noticed that about 20 seconds before it loads it start's up the floppy drive looking for something

Try this if you are not on a network>
Go back into services & turn off workstation. See if that does anything. You might have to reboot.

If I am not mistaken the cause of your slow down is Norton Anti-virus. It is running a a check on the system files and maybe more. go in to Norton Anti-virus options and look at the start up option area and see what it is checking on startup.

i checked the anti virus stuff with norton and there is nothg starting up except for auto protect but that has always started up and it was fine. it did not say about running a scan at the startup or anytheng so no luck there, i also tryed ti disable it and then restart but ti still had that gap in it, and also i thought the workstation was a needed part of networking, i am on a home network wth 9 computers and a few routers. dont i need workstation???

You do need it. That's why I said 'if you are not on a network'.

Other program can cause this problem. I have logon loader set to randomise logon screens & now I have to wait about 15 seconds longer to be able to use windows.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
