Hey guys, i just reinstalled vista on my desktop and now the sound is not working, the sound coming directly from the motherboard.

I doesn't say its a driver issue but...

Its an Asus A8N-E

Thanks for the help,
Jack

What drivers have you installed for it? I know that I have a similar issue with the same board everytime I reinstall windows due to the fact that the nvida NForce 4 ultra driver pack does not contain the proper audio drivers. You used to be able to download NForce Audio drivers from nvidia sperate but I don't believe you can anymore.

Either way if you haven't already done so grab the latest drivers from the asus website or better yet the latest AC' 97 drivers from realtek (Realtek). I have the relatek drivers installed on this board running Win7 with no issues.

Hmm,
I installed the drivers, it said everything was working fine.
But still no sound.

Any more ideas?

Thanks for your help.
The problem was.

One jumpers for the front audio panel was disconnected.
Not quite sure why that affects what goes out the back audio panel but whatever.
Just glad to have it fixed.

Thanks again for your help.

The problem is the old driver, you need to install the current version of driver.
After putting the system in hibernate mode and coming back, the audio worked.
I applied this solution I found at http://www.noaudiooutput.com
Hope it helps if it doesn't they have other suggestions.

Thanks but I had already fixed the issue, it was that the front audio panel jumper was disconnected.

I was the same problem, with my Asus A8N-E motherboard.
I install Windows 7 on my PC and sound doesn't work.
Computer shows, that driver is okay without any red x or error description.
I install latest audio driver from Realtek and no results.
Then I find this thred and, get a front panel audio jack and attach it.
Now i finally have sound :)

I just wanted put my comment her because this issue is really unusual.
I never figured out it, if i didn't read it here.

PS. I have a computer case with out front panel AC'97 audio jack.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
