Hipster Doofus,
Unticking Zonealarm shaved a few seconds from my start time but not enough to make it worthwhile.
Because all of this effort seemed to be leading me to little or no reduction in start time, I unplugged this (second) hard drive & reinstalled the original drive from which this one was cloned. It had everything as it was before I tried unticking things on the start menu &/or disabling services.
Surprise, surprise! The original drive starts significantly faster (30 seconds less) than the new improved version that's been tweaked. Obviously there is some thing very wrong here. I must be running into some sort of system issues as a result of the tweaking.
Thanks for trying to help, but it appears that I'm better off to leave well enough alone.
Best regards, Dick
