After WinXp Pro closes, logs me out, saves settings, then it takes Windows 45 secs to shut down . . . just long enough to take a nap. Anyone know how to get the shutdown process shortened.

There is a slim chance that your Paging File may be being wiped on shutdown. Just pop into your registry and look for:-
ClearPageFileAtShutdown
and make sure the Value is at "0"

set ClearPageFileAtShutdown to 0, still takes 30 secs to shutdown
:(

problem fixed , it now shuts down in 4-5 secs . . . thankz BloodLust DWS thread,

ShutDown Fast:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Control\\WaitToKillServiceTimeout

set to 100

Umm mine is set to 20000. What should it be set at?

20,000 is the default for XP, you can set it to any figure you like as long as it has 00 on it, ie. you can have 600 but 642 will be ignored.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
