Slow internet and DNS settings.

Hey, I got a dumb question! HA! Anyways, I installed the new PCLinuxOS 2007 (pretty nice) but my internet was slow on the wifi and even hardwired. I figured out what caused it but not for sure why it fixed it. The DNS settings were set to auto from DHCP. I unchecked the auto and manually pointed it to my router (def. gateway) as primary and secondary an IP that the ISP assigns. Works like a champ now, just curious why and if it makes sense that this would fix it?

Thanks!

since you are using linux, install a name server (bind/named) that the distro provides and use localhost in the dns search configuration (usually /etc/resolv.conf) faster still :)

You can also replace the DNS IP numbers in /etc/resolv.conf with the ones supplied by OpenDNS.org:
208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
