Slackware 10 & USB 2.0

We have posted every possible solution to your problem. For some reason it still does not work.

Contact your local Linux User Group, or try to get in contact with someone that knows Linux and can give you a hand in person.

If you want to be able to mount as a regular user, you have to add the 'users' option to fstab as I posted earlier.

You do not have to chown the mount point as long as it has permissions 777 since that gives everyone read, write, execute permissions.

Try adding this option to your mount umask=0, as root edit fastab to have this line:

Code:
/dev/sda1 /mnt/usbdrive vfat noauto,users,umask=0 0 0

Then as a regular user you can mount it and have write permissions.

still don't work, did exactly what you said (edited fstab, then rebooted) and "mount -t vfat /dev/sda1 /mnt/usbhd" says "mount: only root can do that" even though I chmoded it as root to 777. Grrr.

then something is wrong with your syntax in the fstab file, the users option gives users the permission to mount that particular mount. Try using just:

mount /mnt/usbdrive

it reads the other options from fstab

woot that worked :D. Now how do I install slackware kernel source so I can install nvidia nforce drivers.

mildly off-topic, but I'm curious why you're running a 2.4x kernel... 2.6 supposedly works a lot better with USB/USB 2.0 devices. Any particular reason you've not upgraded?

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
