This really isn't so much about coding as it is about the registration process. My friends want a website for their band and I can do the coding part. I just don't know about the registration for a domain and hosting. Really I'm just wanting general insight for preferred hosting and what operating system I want it hosted on... I'm guessing I'll register straight through Network Solutions. So please share your opinions.

Network Solutions is going to charge you an arm and a leg for a domain, they can easily charge you $35 last i heard from a friend.

Use some reseller of http://enom.com/ or http://godaddy.com is also very good. I personally use the enom reseller http://registerfly.com/

For hosting, i have heard good things about http://wwm.net/ . Or if you are more of a do it yourself kind of person, LordOfLa offers hosting for £10 a month, check out his plan at http://www.spammers-paradise.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=10498 .

For $4 per month you get:

http://hostmatix.com/noble.html

I've been with them for almost 3 years now (which is unheard of when it comes to webhosts), and they have excellent, excellent customer service. ~bk, and SPeedy_B also use hostmatix for their sites.

I don't have much experience with registering domains as the one I have right now was registered by my dad back in 1997.

Yeah though I will cater to the hands off types, I focus more at the hands on types... how many of those still exist I have no clue so maybe I should refocus to the hands off types that like control panels and what not.

Liar. :p SPeedY_B moved his site over to http://got-w00t.co.uk a while ago, so that he could bother Geffy with support problems. ganai.com is still hosted at hostmatix.

got-w00t :D
weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

yar, I tend to use ukreg or 123reg to register domain names

ok.. well i registered the domain at godaddy.com and then i registered hosting at hostmatix.com... i did the registering last night and the payment details show on my paypal account. the problem lies in the fact that i can't log into hostmatix to view the details of the registration and stuff. and on godaddy when i try putting in the domain name server i got when i was registering through hostamatix, it says they aren't valid. anyone know what the deal is? is it just because it's been such a short time?? because i figured it would go faster since hostmatix says "instant account activation"

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
