if i partion off 2 gigs of my hdd for music, will it create a new drive? (example: 20gig C drive, partioned to 18gig C: .. will the 2 gigs create a new drive 'Z:' ?)

im just playing around with the tools on my computer, just figuring out some new ways of organizing space.

It will create a D. That's why I have my cd roms as X Y Z then they don't get messed up. It is easy to change back though with XP.

ok, so i made my "M" drive aka MUSIC drive.... how do i change this nasty default windows xp icon?

This is how I do it>

Open note pad & create this file:
[AUTORUN]
ICON=icon.ICO *(name of icon)*

Save as autorun.inf

Put the inf & the icon in the root of the drive. Reboot.

In your case here> M:\

You might have to reboot to see the result.

theres an icon in my

"%SystemRoot%\system32\SHELL32.dll"

but i dont know what number.. how do i find out?? its a Music note, and speaker in the same icon...

also, how would i label this? ICON="%SystemRoot%\system32\SHELL32.dll" ??

You have to use the actual icon & move/copy it to the root of the drive. Don't know how to get at it in the shell. :(

didnt seem to work, i did the reboot.. do i need to enable something?

Have a look over here. That's my E drive highlighted in the pic. Look for the Dap.ico on the right then look at the left.

The autorun file is like this:

[AUTORUN]
ICON=Dap.ICO

Saved as a autorun.inf which is on the right.

Is your similar? Maybe attach what you have done so we can see it.

it seemed to work after i renamed the short-cut file. what a crack-headed computer eh?:happy: thanks

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
