Signature help

How do you all make these great sigs? Do I need any special software? I'm sure this has been asked before but I couldn't find a thread anywhere.

The usual way (on other forums) is to make your sig in a graphics program, PaintShop Pro for example, and upload them to your site and paste the url into the signature box in your profile. Some forums allow you to use SWFs, which can be made using Flash, Swish or a number of other programs. You can, of course, use animated gifs as well. Not sure what this forum software allows though.
