Shutdown Problem

I have an Athlon TBird 1.2GHz system running WinXP on a Soltek 75KAV board with 512MB SDRAM. The moment you press shut, it takes quite a while before the machine finally shutdown. What could be the problem? Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

I notice in another post that you're having problems with CD burner. Did this shutdown problem occur around the same time you installed the drive? You might try unplugging the drive and doing a few test shutdowns to test the theory that the two problems aren't unrelated.

Sorry - I forgot to mention that the PC in question does not have the said burner. This is a separate PC running WinXP. Thanks again for highlighting.

or u can do this

Windows xp has the service shutdown time set to 20000 ms which equals 20 secs Go to regedit and change the key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Con
trol\\WaitToKillServiceTimeout

dude, my shutdown problems have disappeared! THANK YOU!!!!!!!

Well, I have a program called X Teq Setup and in that is the option to change the default shutdown value. Mine was initially set to 20 seconds, but now at 2 it is killer!
