Should I install SP2 for Windows XP?

WHy not call the manufacturer and ask for an SP2 oem install cd or restore image?

I tried that couple years ago
when I learned that any re-install would trash my WHOLE system
ie - reload the image
and there is no separate driver disk to make my own 'restore' system
yes - they have since changes that methodology but I caught in a bad batch
hmmm . . . maybe I might re - approach them
