Sharing files with XP

OK call me Network retarded... Can anyone tell me if two machines can access a file and change it at the same time.

usualy, no. when you open a network file which someone else has open, it will tell you so and ask you if you want open it read only (you can still edit it and then save it as somthing else of course).
However, I think, it may depend on how the network is setup
