I just got a laptop and want it to share my DSL internet connection with my Desktop.

The hardware shouldn't be a problem [wireless router and pmcia cards for both PC's] however I'm concerned about how to connect via freeserve from both computers...

When I conect to freeserve I log in [password etc...] if one PC is already connected will it allow another to hook up too?

I'd be especially interested to here from anyone already doing this on freeserve in the UK.

I'm not sure about the logging in (PPPoA or PPPoE) part of DSL, as I have cable.
The premise I guess should be the same though.

Set-up your connection (DNS username p/w etc) in your router.
There should be options to input this data in the config pages of the router.
Then use the router as a gateway to the internet.

Ahhh so the router uses my passwords etc..?

Thanks erbmaster!

yes it does. I have a router and DSL, using a router is much better. No loigns and such. It acts lke cable, basically no config on the computer side (if you use DHCP).

the router should be able to put in username + password for ya mubbs :d

i want to do exactly the same when i get a laptop ;)

You'll need a modem/router if you want to use both machines at any time.
The modem/router will automatically log on to the internet and route the data to the machine requesting the data.
You can also use it for home networking too. :)

The following may do - comments?

D-Link 4-Port Wireless Broadband Router

D-Link PCMCIA 22M Wireless Adaptor

D-Link PCI Bus 22M Wireless Adaptor

What type of broadband modem is it? From what I gather Freeserve appear to supply USB ones if you get it from them.

Yeah it's an alcatel USB modem.

alcatel speed touch 330 made by tompson ;) :p

If it's a USB modem how does it connect to the dlink ethernet router?

Or does that dlink have a usb input?

Most routers are ethernet.

i presumed he got a router with built in BB modem?

you have a link to model?
there are several types:

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
