when it comes to networking, i'm pretty much a novice. what i need is to have a folder on my win7 machine that i can assign a URL to so i can access files from anywhere. between win7 and my router (D-Link DIR-655), i would think there is a way to do this without any extra software. someone please do your best to give me setp-by-step instructions. :squareeye

edit: do i use the virtual server option on my router?

you would need to install something like Apache, Lighttpd, nginx, IIS and then sort out port forwarding from your router to your pc. Then you'll need a dynamic IP mapper from someone like no-ip.org.

damn, i thought it would be more simple than that. :dead: well, i'll get around to playing with it someday. thanks.

You could install FileZilla server on the PC that will share the folder.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
