Setting up an IRC channel

How does a newbie setup an IRC channel?

I'd like to run a chat all the time. I assume I'd need a bot in there to keep the channel active?

I'm a comple n00b when it comes to this...

what server are you talking about? on some like dalnet you can register so its your. if its on efnet just join the channel and *poof* you got it, just bring in a botnet and there you go

join the channel you want to create, then type this:

/msg ChanServ help

That's no help at all (to a n00b). I want to setup my own channel. How do I go about doing this and adding a bot?

As already asked... What server?
If you tell us the server we can then determine if it runs services, which will enable you to register and keep the channel without the hassle of a bot.

If you're new to simply registering a channel, I'd leave bots alone for a while.
