Does anyone have any idea how much a 4sq mile Wi-Fi network would cost.

And how to go about doing it?

I know strange question.

Hmmm, pricing is conspicuously missing. Let us know if you get the prices. I'm guessing $200 per node for the "private" and $1000 for the "public safety".

Then there will be the cost of the special ethernet boxes to drive them since they get power over ethernet.

And you will still have to hardwire powered ethernet cable to the nodes.

So, burried cable permits, lightning, safety, possibly FCC liscences?

This is not a cheap job.

You probably need planning permission from local council for putting up the antennas too... not sure if that's already been mentioned. :)

I meant to supply this link when I saw the original post.

Better late than never? A friend of mine runs wlan.ork.uk among other things - he is an ex-radio ham and builds his own kit, so a pretty good source on this I would think - name's Henry O'tani and you can say Paul sent ya if you like

Thanks for the help guys, its an idea i am knocking around, as a service i can offer my customers.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
