had to get a new mouse as other one died...
jst got an MS intellimouse 3.0 coz it was cheap'

just curious if there was any tecnical difference if u used USB connection instead of using the adaptor to plug it into a serial port?

It will run the same, really, but USB is better--because it's USB I guess! :)

If you use the USB port, it's cool because you can disconnect the mouse if you want to, you don't have to turn off the system. But beware with the USB connection, sometimes when I return to my desktop, the keyboard (USB) and the mouse(USB) will not work. I just have to reconnect them, but the first time it happened, it scared the crap out of me! Either way will work...but I didn't know there was a serial to USB adaptor. Do you mean PS/2?

like I said on IRC...

usb == higher data transfer rates... ergo you will be better off going usb...

however you are unlikely to see a REAL difference in overall performance...

I have 2 mice hooked up @ the moment... one usb... and the performance difference is indiscernible...

lol @ me saying serial.. i mean ps/2 and i'm sure the rest of you did too :p tnx UofEEE

oops my bad :X

If you find that the PS/2 mouse is not smooth enough, you can always increase the sampling rate from 100/sec to 200/sec. Its in device manager, [your mouse] properties, then the advanced setting tab.

The only other difference is that if your mouse if optical then with PS/2 the light stays on after your computer turns off, with the USB the light turns off.

I've went from the intelli-mouse USB to the Wireless Optical Blue and USB is a better choice...and for the one..that walks away and comes back to find that his USB keyboard and Mouse don't function..then youve got some issues you need to fix...Ive got the Logitech Elite Keyboard on USB...and I can walk away for a week and come back..to a functioning Keyboard and Mouse

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
