There is also going to be a 512 mb ATI Graphics card, but i have not chosen which one I want yet. Any suggestions there?

:):):)

Switch from the AM2 setup to a core2 duo or quad processor (and likewise, change the motherboard as needed) and you should be fine.

Also, I am not sure of the quality of the power supply unit since I am not familiar with it.

After building a AMD X2 desktop and then buying a Core 2 Duo laptop I have to say the Core 2 Duo seems quite superior to AMD. I only wish I knew of this before I built my system as I would've went the Intel route.

Ditto, if you are going to spend that much on a cpu/mb go core 3 Duo.

AMD is ok if you want to get by with $100 for the cpu and $70 for the MB.

On the graphics card get an Nvidia board if you are into gaming, if you want multimedia then go with ATI. There is a reason nvidia took over a major portion of the video card market this year.

PS get a real PSU. Any 500W PSU selling for $39.99 is not worth the CO2 it will take to extinguish it.

Sounds good to me; speaking of sounds for now I wouldn't buy a sound card as you'll probly won't need one.

Sweet, I am more into the whole video editing thing and gaming is not my forte. But it sounds like the core 2 duo is superior. I will look into that. And with my video editing i am importing and recording plenty of music and sound so i thought the sound card would enable me to expand my horizon in that area.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
