sdram vs ddrram

can someone help me find a article/review/comparison about this

ddr is twice as fast ddr=double data rate.

Brad

i know that i was wondering about the performance increase andstuff like that

i don't have any articles for you, but i can say that it's partly hype. sure, ddr will give you better performance... but it's certainly not a reason to throw away your sdr board and go buy a ddr one. a computer with, say, pc2100 memory (2.1gb/sec) will get maybe 10% better performance in games than the same computer with pc133 (1gb/sec).

but if you're buying a new board, yeah ddr is worth it.

actually i'm buying a new board and i got 512 mb of sdram.so ddr not worth it after all huh

If you are going to buy a new board by all means go DDR. If for no other reason to stay currant and not be left with something that you will not be able to upgrade. It is only a matter of time before SDR goes the way of the old DIMMS

I agree. I think SD RAM will slowly fade away, and make way from faster DDR and RDRAM. If you are getting a new board, I think it's a very good investment to get faster and newer ram with it.
Especially, if you are getting a Kt333 board, then, make sure you go with PC2700 RAM, for very, very nice performance.

if you want performance, i'd go with a ddr board. it'll cost a bit more cuz you'll need to buy memory.

if you're going with something cost-effective, get an sdram board and use the memory you have.

well from what i read ddr gives only from 5 to 20% performance increase :( i think i'll stay with sdram

lol... he's trying to say rambus memory is faster... it's a good choice if you're getting a p4 motherboard. but it's even more costly than ddr.

getting an sdr board is a fine value-conscious decision.

DDR RAM is SDRAM it just moves at a higher rate like AGP, when a clock cycle goes by DDR RAM does 2 Work loads compared to SDRAM which only does 1, as for RAMBUS it is an Intel thang, really its slower, but with the way its set up with there boards and the CPU it does work faster, becouse it does less in a faster time frame in other words kinda like pipelining. So that makes it faster!! and is best for Intel systems.....Now by all means you should go to DDR but if yo don't want to spend the money don't wait the price will drop soon considering that it is becoming the standard.:D

intel has stated that it is porting to ddr only systems with maybe specialised boards supporting RDRAM in the future... rdram is going the way of the dinosaur.. I think intel understand that and is moving to ddr and ddr II and maybe the new ati thing.. lets call it ddr3 for now...

i would say purchase ddr over sdram... better performance for sure... however if you are using sdr... its not "bad"... :)

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?

Impressed you have kept this alive this long EP! So many sites have come and gone. :(

Just did some crude math and I apparently joined almost 18yrs ago, how is that possible???
