Which is best, If I am away from my PC for 1 to 2 hours, shut it down or leave it running with the scren saver active, I am concerned about the life of my TFT minitor
 
Yes, be nice and shut it down and save some power for the rest of us :)
 
go into Power Options and have it "Turn off monitor" after like 20 or 30 idle minutes. that mode is made to save power and the life of your monitor.
