Has anyone heard of Schmap Guide? I received an email from them today. Apparently they want to use one of my photographs from Toronto in their Canada guide. Not sure what to do :crosseyed:

You've been sent a Flickr Mail from Emma J. Williams:

:: Schmap: Canada Photo Short-list
Hi Amanda,

I am writing to let you know that one of your photos has
been short-listed for inclusion in the second edition of
our Schmap Canada Guide, to be published at the end of this
month.[removed]URL removed due to the fact that now anyone could submit the photo![/removed]

Clicking this link will take you to a page where you can:
i) See which of your photos has been short-listed.
ii) Submit or withdraw your photo from our final selection
phase.
iii) Learn how we credit photos in our Schmap Guides.
iv) Browse the first edition of our Schmap Canada Guide.

While we offer no payment for publication, many
photographers are pleased to submit their photos, as Schmap
Guides give their work recognition and wide exposure, and
are free of charge to readers. Photos are published at a
maximum width of 150 pixels, are clearly attributed, and
link to high-resolution originals at Flickr.

Our submission deadline is Sunday, March 9. If you happen
to be reading this message after this date, please still
click on the link above (our Schmap Guides are updated
frequently - photos submitted after this deadline will be
considered for later releases).

Best regards,

Emma Williams,
Managing Editor, Schmap Guides

They want your picture. I don't want to come off as being a greedy person, but in todays day and age, everyone wants something for free.

1) you took the picture
2) someone likes it enough to use it in their works.
3) I would think a fair payment would be acceptable. ( They are making some kind of money for the site)

my 2 cents :)

They're incorporated so they make money somehow. I'd ask them for some form of compensation. After all you paid to go to Toronto, your photo is saving them that expense :)

They're also using a common trick of saying "other people let us use their photos free" to encourage you to do so as well. It's a trick I was taught on my first and only day as a door to door salesman for Scotish Power :)

I have removed the URL from your post, as it would have allowed anyone to easily be "you" and submit the photo for inclusion, which would not have been right.

Thanks guy's, you'd think this Schmap Guide would have their own photographers wouldn't you instead of poking around in other peoples :crosseyed:

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
