how do i do the on XP to scan the hd to see if there's bad sectors and that and is it safe to do it in normal mode or do it in safe mode:rolleyes:

normal,
XP no longer has scandisk btw.

You want to run chkdsk /r (which is a little more comprehensive than chkdsk /f). You enter the command from a command line (such as Start - Run) and the system will reboot and run from outside the Windows Interface. Therefor, there is no need to run it from safe mode.

As the above post says, MS reverted to checkdisk for XP - there is no scandisk.

Whats the difference between /r and /f.
Do i type this in the run box?

Chkdsk /r locates bad sectors & recovers reliable information. It infers chkdsk /f

If you want a complete breakdown of all the switches, from a command line type: chkdsk /?

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
