I just upgraded my IBM laptop to WindowsXP Pro, and now there's always an icon in my system tray that says "Safely Remove Hardware." I'm not interested in removing any hardware from my laptop, and I just want that icon out of my system tray. Does anyone know how to remove the icon from the system tray for good?

Attached is a pic of the icon for anyone interested.

Right click the taskbar and go to properties, then click 'customise' at the bottom. Set the icon to be always hidden. I have do the same as XP doesn't like my modem.

That does work... but I have "hide icons" turned off because I find the feature annoying. I'm wondering if there is a registry tweak or some setting else where in the OS that will get ride of the icon for good.

Thanks for the reply though.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
