How can I run a command when the computer shuts down using the normal shutdown routine (start -> shutdown computer -> shutdown). With Windows 98 it was eay using the Task Scheduler (I believe it was called that way), but I can't seem to find an alternative in Windows XP (Home Edition).

Well, first off there is a task scheduler (it's called "Scheduled Tasks" in Programs - Accessories - System Tools.

Second, you can just create a shortcut to a batch file that runs what you want and then shuts down the system.

What about the group policy editor. Gives you options for startup/shutdown scripts

Yeah, I know, but that is only available in XP Professional, right? I can't seem to find it though.

edit: I see this your second post, on behalf of everyone here, I welcome you to NTFS.org!

Thanks.
Sorry i've not used home edition.
GPEDIT.MSC brings it up anyway.

I think I should use that now. Now there is one more thing, but I will start a new thread about it, because it is a little off topic.

Any of the SP crew still out there?
