Router + Dsl problem

I currently have a linksys cable/dsl router and a DSL connection. problem is that when i have these 2 hooked up together to share internet connection, i keep getting disconnected then reconnected from the net. this doesnt happen however when the dsl connection is connected directy to my computer. help plz.

Could be a funky router I guess. Could also be a setting. In my router D-Link 704P there is a checkbox called "renew IP forever" that is said to keep the connection alive. Also you could try to have some program generate a little traffic now and then to keep the connection alive. A ping is enough.
