I have been tasked with coming up with the parts to build out 2 test PCs for work and it has been almost 3 years since I have even built up a computer. The CPU I am wanting to use is the AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+. I obviously need a motherboard that supports the socket 939 CPU...but I also need the motherboard to be Linux friendly because we are planning on installing Open SUSE 10.0 and the linux version of VMWare server. I would like the systems to have 4GB of RAM and a 500GB SATA drive. It would be nice to be able to find a microATX motherboard that would meet these requirements but I haven't been able to find any solid information on this. It is not a show stopper if I can't find a mATX that fits these specs, we just have small areas in our office(s) for setting up PCs and servers and it would be nice to have test machines that do not take up alot of space. While I am thinking about it, can anyone suggest a linux friendly video card as well? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Nvidia cards are more friendly with Suse than ATI, although it is possible to get it working through Yast, the Nvidia cards are recognized at install.

64 bit is not well supported even in Linux yet, while if you install a 64 bit install, everything will probably work, some programs won't work nicely or have memory leaks because of the 64 bit pointers, and other issues. For now I still suggest you stick with something 32 bit. Unless there is an absolute specific reason for them to be 64 bit.

If you do go with 32 bit, there are a ton of mini-atx motherboards out there.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
